The Banyan Community is a Christian Community Development Corporation (CCDC) that builds relationships and improves the lives of both youth and adults living in East Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Our programs are divided into three strategies: Develop Youth, Strengthen Families and Create Community.
Develop Youth
The Banyan provides opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills, engage in positive relationships with peers and adults, and have new experiences. Creating a culture of educational achievement is a high priority for the Banyan.
Strengthen Families
The Banyan offers a safe place for youth and adult residents to gather and engage in healthy relationships. Building developmental assets in families develops youth and helps create community. Creating a sense of teamwork between parents and teens empowers both the youth and adults.
Create Community
The Banyan Community aims to create models of success that give a sense of hope within the community. Community building is imperative to breaking down the isolation that poverty so often creates. The joy that the gatherings bring is powerful. The work of the block club is necessary to create a safe atmosphere for community to thrive.
The Banyan is rooted in East Phillips; rising up to develop youth and strengthen families, reaching out to create community.
