Lighthouse Network

The Lighthouse Network is a new program for the Banyan Community (2009), building off of the success of the long-time block club of 2500 16th Avenue. The vision of the Lighthouse Network is a grid of blocks surrounding the Banyan Community Center consisting of many active, registered block clubs. The initiative includes developing both individual block clubs and a network of connecting these block clubs to form a larger community safe zone. Each individual participant agrees to a pledge and to post a sign in their house window committing themselves to getting to know neighbors and keeping the community safe. Leaders are trained both in building community and creating safe blocks. Building community is the long-lasting bricks and mortar that will help the entire neighborhood become more livable.
